Ingredients     Herbs

At Simmer & Bloom we source our ingredients from local farmers and purveyors in Maine. When we can’t find a product locally we do our best to source ethical and organic ingredients.

Here’s a rundown of some of our awesome partners.

Maine Grains

All of our flour comes from Maine Grains in Skowhegan, Maine, an old jailhouse turned grain mill. Led by Amber Lambke, their mission is to re-localize grain production and milling. Maine Grains works to impact their community by creating jobs, improving land utilization, and  focusing on a holistic food chain so that we may all reap the rewards of fresh food to our health and happiness.

The Maine Grains milling facility is certified organic through the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association.

Bixby Chocolate Co.

Bixby  & Co. was founded by Kate McAleer in 2011 with the mission to make chocolate confections that are clean and natural, with a conscience. All of their chocolate is made in Rockland, Maine. We use Bixby’s 70% Cacao Bittersweet Baking Chips. We’re so excited to be using Maine’s first chocolate crafted directly from the cacao bean, that is also single origin and direct trade.

Bixby & Co. bears many certifications including: Organic, Non-GMO, Kosher, Gluten-Free and Vegan Verification, Rainforest Alliance Certified chocolate, SQF Level II Certification, and certified Women Owned.

Oakhurst Dairy

We are so lucky to share Portland with Oakhurst Dairy! Oakhurst has always stood for The Natural Goodness of Maine since it was founded on Woodford Street in 1921, to today’s 100% farmer-owned dairy on Forest Avenue. Oakhurst pledges to not only offer the freshest products day in and day out, but to conduct business transparently, in ways that honor their customers, the environment and their responsibility to the next generation.

All of Oakhurst’s milk comes from local Maine farmers who took the first farmers pledge to keep artificial growth hormone out of their milk.

Maine Sea Salt

We use Maine Sea Salt, made in Marshfield, Maine with water from Buck's Harbor. This husband and wife run company is transparent about their process, and we love touring their greenhouses. All of their salt is solar evaporated, unrefined, additive free, has no added iodine, and is hand-harvested. Maine sea salt is never heated or washed.

Maine Sea Salt contains natural trace minerals From The Atlantic and is Kosher Certified.

Dolan Flavoring Co.

Dolan pure vanilla extract is made here in Portland, Maine! This small family business has been around since 1906. We are so lucky to have the subtle taste of bourbon vanilla, aged in bourbon barrels in every cookie we make and love being able to support a family of passionate purveyors

Dolan Flavoring Co. is one of the oldest continuing businesses in Maine, and has produced its products and extracts for over a hundred years.
